Pulling the cord in the lid of this salad spinner rotates the basket in two directions, drying greens quicker than spinners that only rotate in a single direction. The yo-yo-like action follows the same principal a spaniel uses when shaking off after his bath: the back and forth motion prevents droplets from being trapped in the folds of greens. (Conveniently, it also rewinds the pull-cord.) The basket measures 9-3/4 inches in diameter and 4-1/4 inches deep, ample capacity for family-size salads. It fits into a big transparent bowl made of light but rugged plastic that can be used to serve salads--or potato chips. A transparent, snap-on lid converts the bowl into an airtight storage container.
